Homebrew, The making of beer, cider and wine at home with basic equipment using natural ingredients found growing wild or what you have produced yourself, at a fraction of the price of shop bought alcohol

How To Make Your Own Homebrew:

Beer, Wine or Cider was not always made from the finest French grapes and the finest hops or even best apples, it was made from whatever anybody had to hand, whether it be left over potatoes to hedgerow fruit and wind falls. People have made perfectly good homebrew booze from anything they didn't eat for thousands of years.


Why Should I Make My Own Homebrew Beer, Cider and Wine?:

Whether you drink or not, or even whether you drink beer or wine or other, self sufficiency isn't just about providing things for your own consumption. It is basically impossible to be totally self sufficient as you will still need things that you cant normally provide or are beyond your expertise, so you will need currency and what better currency than what people want, and a lot of people like a nice drink and good homebrew booze will very rarely be refused, so what better reason to brew your own beer and wine if not for yourself, then to use as a currency or to barter with for payment for other goods or services.

Great thing about beer and especially homebrew wine & cider is most of the ingredients are almost free, provided by nature and collected from hedgerows and wild unproductive land or from left over or spoilt home grown produce.

Blackberries and other wild fruits, even nettles can be used together with apples and pears or any of your grown fruit. Potatoes and other vegetables in fact the list is endless of the things you can use to make wine.

Honey can be used as the sweetener for beer or the added sugar replacement in wine and the fermentation process will turn these natural sugars to alcohol. This is no different to how beers and wines have been made for thousands of years, and these drinks were just as good as any grape based drink.

The best cider, of which Ireland was once well known for, is made from ordinary apples that grew in ordinary orchards, and in the south of England "Scrumpy" as it is known there is still as famous and sought after today as it ever was.

In Ireland, and around the world, everybody has heard of the classic Irish homebrew "Poteen" which for hundreds of years was and most likely still is made and used as a form of currency or for cash as well as being consumed by those who make it, but the problem is the governments say it is illegal probably because they lose revenue from its sales, but making beer and wines is perfectly legal, very much easier and can be used the same way and will most likely not be refused and doesn't need to be consumed straight away. Selling these products would still attract the usual taxes and duties associated with beer and wine sales but privately i am sure a friend may do the odd favour for a bottle or two.

You can save yourself a small fortune by making your own homebrew booze. It isn't difficult. it can be made from cheap local ingredients and you know exactly what has gone in to it with no chemical sprays if from your own home grown produce. Your homebrew drink will be as good as any shop bought, have more taste and you can make it as strong as you like.

Natural Ingredients Or Cider & Wine Making Kits?:

For wine and cider you do not need to purchase the kits from homebrew suppliers shops. The best of wine and cider is and can be made from free produce or fruit and ingredients you have grown yourself. All you need is the most basic of equipment costing just a few pounds/euros. The ingredients for your brew are just fruit and vegetables and other growing plants, some simple yeast to speed things up and sugar or even honey to produce the alcohol and provide some sweetness. Simple and straight forward!
